Peace

These dove tealight holders from the Victorian Trading Co. are pretty lovely.

I think I would feel instantly peaceful with a pair of these flickering away softly in my room.

Architecture and Happiness

The big move is getting frighteningly close, in fact, it is this Sunday. I am sitting in mild panic amongst boxes and bags on my bedroom floor.

Thankfully there are a few inspirations helping me to push through.

I am currently reading the Architecture of Happiness by Alain De Botton

It's all about the wonderful world of architecture and how buildings and interior decoration can act on our moods and emotions, and the legitimacy of beauty in architecture over thrift and frugality. As someone who has always had a love affair with old buildings I am adoring reading this book.

Botton beleives that architecture can help us to aspire to be better people by reminding us of our values.

South Sydney

This building motivated me to finish my university degree even though I was having a hard time getting through it. How could I have possibly left this gorgeous space prematurely.

I'd love to know if anyone else has a building that has inspired them.

Janeite Teapot Biscuits

I love these Jane Austen inspired teapot biscuits.

They are the handiwork of mischief mari, who has a flair for creating literary inspired baked goods.

Another favourite are her "bittersweet, dark and spicy" Heathcliff Truffles. Yum!

British-Raj

On Sunday I visited the Victoria Room in Darlinghurst, Sydney, a bar and restuarant decorated in British-Raj (British Indian) style.

I love the over-the-top oppulance combined with a sultry Indian vibe. Think rich damask wallpapers and velvet lounges mixed with bamboo curtains and palm fronds, and sparkling chandeliers veiled in muslin coupled with slowly spinning wooden ceiling fans.

It's worth taking a virtual tour on the Victoria Room website to take a look at the gorgeous decore, or better still, visit in person if you can.

I think it is the perfect style to complement a Victorian terrace in Sydney. Now I am torn, do I decorate my room in forest girl style, or British Raj style?

Forest Bedroom

I recently stumbled across the gorgeous Japanese fashion subculture of Mori Girls - girls who look like they live in the forest. What a wonderful concept.

I am moving house in a couple of weeks and will be decorating my room, so you can imagine my delight when I came across this forest themed bedroom by attiladesign.

A forest to live in!
